Chiefs defensive lineman BJ Thompson in stable condition after suffering cardiac arrest during practice

The Kansas City Chiefs postponed practice on Thursday, June 6 after defensive lineman BJ Thompson experienced a medical emergency, according to multiple reports.

According to NFL Media, Thompson, 25, went into cardiac arrest after suffering a seizure during a special teams meeting. The Chiefs’ medical staff responded to the situation immediately and Thompson is now in stable condition at the hospital.

The Chiefs were set to hold their final offseason training activity of the week after practicing on both Tuesday and Wednesday. According to a statement on NFL.com, the media availability originally scheduled for Thursday, featuring head coach Andy Reid and select players, has been pushed to Friday, June 7. The Chiefs will be back on the field for next week for their mandatory minicamp, which runs June 11-13. After minicamp, the team will be off until training camp starts in late July.

Per ESPN, Thompson was selected by the Chiefs as a fifth-round pick in the in the 2023 draft out of Stephen F. Austin. He has appeared in one game as a rookie, registering two tackles.
