The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to release cornerback Darius Slay on Monday, ahead of the final year on his contract. The Eagles will save about $4.3 million against the salary cap if Slay is designated as a post-June 1 release.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported: “Eagles are releasing six-time Pro-Bowl CB Darius Slay, per sources. If he is designated a post-June 1 release, the Eagles will save $4.3 million against the cap. He spent five seasons with the Eagles.”

Slay, 34, joined the Eagles in a 2020 trade from the Detroit Lions; in 2023, the Eagles signed him to a 2-year, $42 million contract extension. The 12-year veteran totaled 49 combined tackles, 13 passes defensed, three tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over 14 starts last season. He recently said on the St. Brown Podcast that he hoped to remain an Eagle at least one more year, but acknowledged how that might not be the case. The six-time Pro Bowler said that he would either want to play in Philadelphia again or with the Detroit Lions, where he played the first seven years of his career.
