Jannik Sinner of Italy wins over Novak Djokovic of Serbia during the Australian Open AO 2024 Grand Slam tennis tournament on January 26^ 2024 at Melbourne Park in Melbourne^ Australia.

Italian Jannik Sinner beat defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz in four sets on Sunday, to take the men’s title for the first time in his career.

The No. 1 seeded Sinner is now a four-time Grand Slam champion, who battled back after dropping the first set to Alcaraz to win the men’s final 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, in a match that lasted three hours and four minutes.

After their rematch of the French Open final in June – where Alcaraz ultimately took the victory – Sinner said during an on-court interview after Sunday’s final: “It’s so special .. I had a very tough loss in Paris. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you win or lose, you have to understand what you did wrong. That’s what we did … “We tried to accept the loss and just kept working and this is for sure one of the reasons why I hold this trophy right here.”

With Sunday’s victory, Sinner has now won every Grand Slam except the French Open. Before this year, he had never made it further than the semifinals at the All England Club.
