Tallahassee^ FL - March 2023: Doak Campbell Stadium^ home of Florida State University Football

Florida State University confirmed Monday that freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard is in intensive care after being shot Sunday night. Pritchard is listed in critical but stable condition at a hospital in the Tallahassee area. Pritchard, a native of Sanford, Florida, joined the Seminoles in January. He did not appear in Florida State’s season-opening win over Alabama.

According to the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred while Pritchard was inside a vehicle outside an apartment complex in Havana, Florida just before 10 p.m. Havana is located about 16 miles northwest of Tallahassee, near the Georgia border.

Tallahassee’s WCTV reported that the sheriff’s office told reporters that Pritchard was found wounded inside a vehicle. Authorities say the investigation is still underway, and an arrest has not yet been made.

Head coach Mike Norvell addressed the situation during his weekly press conference on Monday, sharing that he had been with Pritchard’s family at the hospital: “It’s obviously an extremely tragic event for the young man. Grateful for all the medical support he was able to receive. Our football team, coaches, family are all here to support them. We’re praying for all parts of him and the journey that’s ahead. Definitely appreciate the support from everybody in the community that we feel.”

FSU’s statement noted that Pritchard had been visiting relatives at the time of the shooting: “The Pritchard family is thankful for the support from so many people, as well as the care from first responders and medical professionals, and asks that their privacy be respected at this time.”
