ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday that the New York Giants will bench starting QB Russell Wilson in favor of rookie Jaxson Dart for their Week 4 game against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium in NJ.

Dart, the 25th overall pick this year out of Ole Miss, served as the backup to Wilson for the first three games of the season. In light of the Giants disappointing 0-3 start, head coach Head coach Brian Daboll alluded to the possibility of making a change at quarterback when he said Monday afternoon that the team was “evaluating everything” while refusing to declare Wilson the starter.

Wilson struggled in the team’s first game of the season, with the 36-year-old completing just 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards and did not throw for any touchdowns in the team’s 21-6 loss to the division-rival Commanders in Week 1. In this past Sunday night’s 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Wilson threw for 160 yards and tossed a pair of interceptions, and he was booed late in the first half after that second interception.

Dart showed huge promise during the preseason, earning the trust of Daboll and the Giants’ coaching staff. While Dart did not appear in the team’s game in Week 1, he did play in Weeks 2 and 3 where he ran the ball twice.  Daboll said back in May about the process leading up to selecting Dart: “We do a variety of things with our evaluations, whether it’s being prepared, doing a good job of answering things quickly, changing the picture and being able to fix it, workouts, dinners, Senior Bowl, combine. He did a nice job in all the areas and touch-points of responding in the right way. And that’s all important … and then he was good on tape.”
