Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will sit out Monday night’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a hamstring strain. Head coach Dan Quinn had previously told reporters on Monday that an MRI confirmed Daniels avoided any “significant” damage.

According to an X post from ESPN’s John Keim and Jeremy Fowler: “Breaking: Commanders QB Jayden Daniels will not play in Monday night’s game against the Chiefs, a source told @john_keim and @JFowlerESPN. Marcus Mariota will start. Daniels is suffering from a low-grade hamstring strain, a source said. It is not considered a long-term injury.”

The rookie sustained the injury late in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. On the play, linebacker Shemar James broke through on a blitz, forcing Daniels to pull back from throwing a slant. As he tried to tuck the ball, James knocked it loose, resulting in a fumble. Daniels immediately reached for his right hamstring after hitting the turf.

Sources told NFL Media that while the injury isn’t considered serious, the team is opting to rest him to avoid any risk of aggravation. With Daniels sidelined, veteran Marcus Mariota will take over as the starting quarterback against Kansas City.
