The Denver Broncos have signed head coach Sean Payton to a new five-year contract that will keep him with the organization through the 2030 season. The agreement replaces the final two years remaining on his previous deal and reflects the franchise’s confidence in the direction of the team under Payton’s leadership.

Payton, 62, arrived in Denver after a highly successful tenure with the New Orleans Saints, where he won a Super Bowl and became one of the league’s most accomplished coaches. Since beginning his coaching tenure with the Broncos in 2023, Payton has overseen a dramatic turnaround for a club that had endured years of instability and postseason frustration. Denver have improved their win total in each of his three seasons, culminating in a 14-3 campaign in 2025 that earned the AFC’s top seed and a trip to the conference championship game. Payton has compiled a 32-19 record with Denver and guided the team back into contention after a lengthy playoff drought.

Overall, Payton now owns a career record of 184-108, trailing only Andy Reid among active coaches in victories. The contract extension further solidifies the partnership between Payton and general manager George Paton, who signed his own five-year contract extension last month. Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner has praised the alignment between the coach and front office, a relationship that has helped reshape the roster and establish what the organization views as a sustainable winning culture. A key element of Denver’s resurgence has been the development of quarterback Bo Nix, whom the franchise believes can lead the team into its next era.

Under Payton’s guidance, the Broncos have emerged as one of the NFL’s most successful teams over the past two seasons and are widely regarded as legitimate Super Bowl contenders entering 2026.
