Carly Pearce rang in her 36th birthday by turning the spotlight on her fans, dropping a surprise track titled “You Can Have Him” as a celebratory gift.

Announcing the song’s release, Pearce wrote on Instagram: “surprise… 🤍 for my birthday this year, I wanted to give y’all a little something early”.

Co-written with Tofer Brown, Carter Faith, and Lauren Hungate and produced alongside Ben West, the song came together quickly while Pearce was on tour. She’s said the writing session was lighthearted and spontaneous, resulting in a fun, honky-tonk-style track that encourages women not to hold on to someone who’s already looking elsewhere. The upbeat, tongue-in-cheek song leans into classic country flair, blending steel guitar, fiddle, dobro, and bass to echo the traditional sound that inspired Pearce early in her career. In the performance video, she delivers a cheeky message of confidence and independence; Carly shared: “birthday + a new song + my band in the video… I’d say that’s a win 🤍 this one’s been a favorite for a while now. go get it!”

The track offers another preview of Pearce’s upcoming fifth studio album, following the previously-released tracks  “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay” with Riley Green, as well as “Church Girl” and “Dream Come True.” Pearce has described the project as a return to her bluegrass and traditional country roots, with the forthcoming album (which follows 2024’s hummingbird) reflecting a more personal and liberated creative approach.
