The Minnesota Wild are heading to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after a convincing 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars in Game 6, closing out the series in six games. It marks the franchise’s first trip past the opening round in over a decade.

Quinn Hughes led the charge with two goals, including the decisive tally midway through the third period that deflected in off a Dallas defender. He also helped set up the game-tying goal late in the second, when Vladimir Tarasenko evened things up after the Stars had briefly taken control.

Dallas grabbed a 2-1 lead in the middle frame thanks to back-to-back goals from Wyatt Johnston and Mavrik Bourque, but Minnesota quickly responded and never looked back. Matt Boldy put the game out of reach with a pair of empty-net goals in the final moments.

The Wild finished the regular season with a 46-24-12 record, while the Stars posted a strong 50-20-12 mark but fell short of returning to the Western Conference Final.

Minnesota now advances to face the Colorado Avalanche, who enter the series after sweeping the Los Angeles Kings. The Wild’s breakthrough comes a year after their first-round exit at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights, signaling a significant step forward for the team.
